January - Month of the Carnation

With January being one of the coldest months in the Northern Hemisphere, bring some warmth into your home with carnations!

The carnation is the birth flower for January, the national flower of Spain and the state flower of Ohio.  The scientific name for carnations is dianthus; which basically means "flower of the gods".  The Christian faith believes the first carnation bloomed when Mary wept for Jesus.

Carnations come in a wide variety of colors; each of which has a special meaning.
      Light Red - admiration
Deep Red - love and affection
      White - purity and luck
      Pink - gratitude
