What a year 2014 was - so many schedule changes and not enough time for crafting. I am hopeful this year will not be so chaotic and I can get my craft on!
New for this year, I am a Brownie troop leader - I look forward to sharing our fun projects with you. :)

Doll tutu outfits are always a huge hit at craft shows; so last year I decided to make some that were Disney-inspired. I absolutely love how they turned out!! There are tons of different variations and interpretations of the characters; the possibilities are endless. For the princesses; I decided to keep the tutu's a bit longer so they emulated dresses or ball gowns.

Here's a sample of some of my favorites!

Easter is one of my favorite times of the year; it signals new growth, flowers and warmer weather! I tend to get more inspiration in the spring than any other time of the year. I made these eggs a few years ago for Easter; I got them out for decorations this year and got inspired for a newer version of them. Stay tuned for that!
This was such an easy project to make, it would be another perfect one for older kids. I made these eggs while sitting on the couch watching a movie!

Materials Needed:

Styrofoam eggs (various sizes)

Yarn (various colors and styles)

Elmer's Glue

Straight Pin

Scissors

I began by pinning yarn to the top of an egg; then spread glue around the egg. Carefully, I spun the yarn around the egg to cover the entire Styrofoam with yarn. The trickiest part was completing the wrap on the bottom of the egg. Since the bottom of the eggs was wider, the yarn was having a difficult time staying put. I found that by using tons of glue and wrapping slowly at the bottom I would get the best results.

My favorite yarn to use on this project was the multi-color cotton yarn I had left over from another project. The 'fuzzier' yarn, like the Homespun, did not look as good as I anticipated. This was a very fun project and would work really well for fall and winter projects as well!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

I was excited to make a wreath for this Irish holiday because there are so many different ways this could turn out. You can use greens, make it rainbow colors, use the colors of the Ireland flag; whatever your heart fancies! I choose to use greens and gold to go with a more shamrock theme.

Materials Used:
- Spool of green tulle
- Spool of olive/yellow green tulle
- Spool of gold glitter tulle
- Shamrock decorations
- Shamrock wired ribbon
- Round Styrofoam wreath
- Glue Sticks

I purchased all the materials (except the Styrofoam wreath) from Pat Catan's. The use of a bright green and the olive green really gave a "springy" feel and was a good contrast to the gold glitter tulle. Overall this wreath cost around $15.00; the shamrock ribbon was a little more than I usually like to spend on ribbon - but definitely worth it!
Maybe next year I'll try out a rainbow wreath, I can picture it now. White on the bottom of the wreath for clouds with the rainbow colors on top! Could be cute!
I love writing, sharing and learning about art just as much as I love to paint. I'm still brainstorming how to execute a local art ministry; I would love to get a group of people together that share the same passion, create some beautiful art and share it with residents at a local retirement community. I'm hopeful everything will fall in place in due time!

Impressionism is by far my favorite style, and of all the Impressionist artist - Claude Monet takes the cake. The painting style of Impressionism originated in 19th century Paris with a community of artists. This style is most recognizable small, thin noticeable brushstrokes on the canvas. Impressionism is all about understanding the effects of color and shadows among the subjects being painted. Most paintings done during this time were of landscapes and ordinary life subject matter - which is probably why I am so drawn to these types of paintings. Looking at another person's impression and perception of life can bring so many emotions to the surface. Joy. Sadness. Contentment. The list can go on!

Monet's painting, Impression: soleil levant (Impression Sunrise), was completed around the year 1872 and was on exhibit in 1874. During an art showing, a critic viewed this piece and then coined the term "Impressionism" to describe the work he saw. The exhibition was an opportunity for the artists to showcase this new art form without the interference; and included works by Renoir, Degas, and Cezzane - just to name a few.

Some of Monet's more well-known paintings were created in the late 1890's into the early part of the twentieth century. Monet rented a large house and 2 acres at Giverny (which he later purchased), in northern France. The house also had a barn, orchards and a small garden. Monet's family built up the gardens; and by this time his art dealer had great success in selling his work. The garden became a vast landscaping project and thus became the subject of many of his best-known pieces - such as Water Lilies and the Japanese Bridge and Water Lilies.
Claude Monet died on December 5, 1926 in Giverny. Today, his home and gardens are major tourist attractions in Giverny and draws the attention of many travelers and art enthusiasts!
One day, if I ever make it to France, this is a definite must see!

Happy Crafting!
Like many of you out there, I have a very strong-willed, stubborn three-year old with a loud voice of her own! Since she is likely my last, I admittedly was a little more lax with her when it came to giving up "baby" things - the binky (pacifier) being no exception. Recently we attempted to have her give it up on her third birthday. I thought this would be the perfect time since she understood she was getting to be a big girl. This concept worked for about two weeks; then the binky slowly made it's way back into our lives!

As this past Christmas approached, our elf Christopher made his appearance. Both my girls are very excited about Christopher and whole-heartedly believe in him. Christopher returned to the North Pole with Santa on Christmas Eve - so my husband and I told our little one that Christopher also wants to take her binky's with him so they can be given to new babies. My little goofball thought that was brilliant and made a point to place her binky on the fireplace Christmas Eve so Santa wouldn't miss it!
Christmas morning while my oldest ran as fast as she could to the Christmas tree in the living room - Caitlyn went the opposite direction to fireplace in the family room to see if Santa took her binky! She has not asked for it since (knock on wood!)
The end of the year into the next year is always so busy and just goes by so fast. Before I start on Valentine's crafts, I wanted to share some of the tulle wreaths I made for the winter. So many possibilities with tulle wreaths!
My lovely friend who had the brilliant idea for the Tinkerbell invitations created these beyond adorable Owl Ballerina invitations for Caitlyn's party. I've been so busy the past few weeks with getting ready for the craft show; I almost forgot to make my Halloween wreath.

I think because I waited so long to make my wreath, my selection of decor to add to it was limited. However, I was able to find some black roses and spider ribbon; and it turned out pretty cute! I was able to get the Halloween ribbon and black roses on clearance - so overall this wreath only cost about $8 to make! Not too shabby!!

Materials Needed:
- 1 Spool of Black Tulle
- 3 Black Silk Roses
- 1 Spool of Halloween Spider Ribbon
- Purple Silk Flowers
- Purple Silk Flowers and Embelishments
- Hot Glue Gun
This time I made an autumn wreath for a friend at work. I love how it turned out, so I will definitely be making one for myself as well.

My favorite part of autumn is the colors; I wish we could have colors like this all the time. For this wreath I decided to stick with chocolate brown, orange and off-white/cream white tulle. I wanted to compliment all the beautiful autumn colors in the ribbon and the embellishments.

Materials Needed:
- Styrofoam circle wreath
- Spool of brown tulle
- Spool of off-white/cream tulle
- Spool of orange tulle
- Wired pumpkin ribbon
- Autumn leaves floral pics
- Hot Glue gun

Overall, I'm pleased with this one! I might change things up a bit when I make my own - I'm thinking of leaving the orange tulle out and sticking to just brown and cream. In any case, my friend loved it (and her husband was thrilled she could take down the Easter wreath, lol!).

She had the beyond brilliant idea of putting his hand prints on the tablecloth every year! I thought this was such a cool idea, I knew I had to do one of my own when I had kids.

So, fast-forward now 7 years - I made a tablecloth for Madailein's first birthday and have attempted to put her hand prints on it each year. With Miss Madailein it was a struggle because she detested the feel of paint on her hands! I could not get hand prints the first year, the second year ended up being only one hand; the third year started to get much better! But, I have this awesome keepsake of each birthday.

This was one of the first things I embroidered, and boy can you tell!
In the middle of the tablecloth, I embroidered "Happy Birthday Madailein" and then her birth date, surrounded by some cute birthday designs. In each of the bottom corners of the tablecloth, I embroidered balloons and cupcakes.
I can't believe my Madailein is in the first grade - I remember being in first grade myself and it doesn't seem so long ago!!!

To kick off fall and school starting, I decided to make a Back to School tulle wreath to grace our front door. If you've missed my other tulle wreaths of the year, check out the Valentine Tulle Wreath and the Easter Tulle Wreath. These are so easy to make and I have so many ideas for the autumn and winter; I can't wait to make more!

Materials Needed:
- Styrofoam circle wreath
- Spool of red tulle
- Spool of yellow tulle
- Spool of blue tulle
- Back to school themed ribbon - I choose one that looks like a ruler!
- Pencils and crayons for embellisment
- Wooden apple - I found mine at Pat Catan's in the wood decorating department
- Hot glue gun

The tulle was cut into strips approximately 7" long; then tied around the weath. Once all the tulle was tied on, I gave it a trim so the pieces were even all the way around.

Add your ribbon, hot glue the pencils, crayons and apple - and Voila! Another adorable tulle wreath for around $10!!

My plan is to leave this wreath up until around the middle of September, then make a fall tulle wreath - so stay tuned for that one!

Happy Crafting!

Planning a Tinker Bell birthday party for my daughter's 6th birthday was so fun! There are so many activities, games and décor to compliment this theme, you can't go wrong!! I'm going to share with you how we made this Tinker Bell party a hit. :)

Party Games
- Moonstone Treasure Hunt
If you've seen Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure, you know all about moonstones! I tied some blue floral glass rocks (the kind you use in vases) into some tulle and hid them in the yard. The girls had a blast searching for their moonstones!

- Tinker Bell Treasure Box
Now that we found our moonstones, we needed a treasure box to place them in. At Pat Catan's I found paper mache boxes with lids. Each girl got to select a box and paint it; of course we also had glitter paint to make it sparkle like Pixie Dust!

- Fawn Egg Race
If you know Pixie Hollow, you know that Fawn is an animal fairy! The girls had to race with eggs and bring them back safe to Fawn without breaking them! We did have a few casualties - good thing we played this one outside.

Party Food

- Fairy Berries

A lovely mixture of raspberries, blackberries and blueberries in a baking cup - the perfect size of kids!

- Cheese's Cheese

Mixture of cubed cheese (who doesn't love cheese?!)

- Fairy Mary Muffins

Miniature blueberry muffins - again the perfect size for kids.

- Fairy Wands

Pretzel rods with marshmallows rolled in sprinkles. I thought these would be a big hit with the kids, but they either ate the marshmallows off the pretzel, or just ate the pretzel and left the marshmallow!

- Neverberry Punch

Delicious punch made with lemonade and a splash of cranberry juice. I also sliced up some strawberries to place in the punch for decoration.

Party Décor

- Fairie's Welcome sign

Of course you cant' have a fairy party without letting them know they are welcome in a human house (I forgot to take a picture of mine)! Madailein also made a special sign for the fairies!

- Tea Pots and Pixie Dust

Since Tinker Bell lives in a tea pot, I couldn't resist doing some arrangements in them! The Pixie Dust not only served as a décor, but a party favor as well. Each girl got to bring home two jars of Pixie Dust.

The past few months have just been a blur of school ending, work schedule changes, and vacations! But - now I'm back with lots of crafting to do.

For Madailein's sixth birthday, she decided to have a Tinkerbell party! There is nothing about Disney that this kid doesn't love. I typically do not buy the invitations that match the party decor (see last years post with the adorable home-made mermaid invitations) - so I put my creative cap on for some home-made Tink inspired invitations. My initial idea was to draw a dandelion blowing in the wind - as a metaphor for Tinkerbell (since fairies come from dandelion fluff!). Thankfully, a dear friend of mine who is fabulous at creating cards and invitations, gave me the best idea.

Materials Needed:
- Glitter Card Stock - I used pink, green and lavender
- Sheets of Vellum
- Scissors
- Hole Punch
- Ribbon
- Glue Stick
- Self Adhesive Jewel Stickers
- Printer!

Step One-
I found an adorable saying for the invitations while searching the internet:

Sprinkle Some Pixie Dust and Fly Our Way

Come Celebrate Madailein's 6th Birthday!

I also downloaded a Disney inspired font onto my computer to utilize for these cards. On Microsoft Word, I pasted a sillohoute of Tinkerbell and then overlapped the wording ontop the image.
Words of advice - it is difficult to print onto vellum!!! I had to watch a YouTube video to figure it out. Basically, if you tape the vellum to a sheet of computer paper, you can trick the printer into recognizing the vellum. Be patient and print one sheet at a time.

Step Two-
Cut the cardstock into the shape of the card (I did rectangles).
Cut the vellum into the same shape, just slightly smaller.
Glue the vellum onto the cardstock.

Step Three -
Using the hole punch, make two holes in the top of the card.
Thread some ribbon through the holes and make a pretty bow! Add jewel stickers for some extra sparkle!

Voila! Super cute, home-made Tinkerbell inspired fairy invitaitons for a fraction of the cost of store-bought invitations. I bought all the materials at JoAnn Fabrics, used coupons and the total was less than $8.00.
I don't know where the time has gone; and I've gotten very little crafting done. One thing I have been consistent with in the crafting world is baby blankets. Many people at work are expecting little ones and I've been lucky to sell a few on my Etsy shop (yea!)

The most recent blanket I made for a co-worker is this absolutely adorable Superman blanket. Both he and his wife are huge comic book fans, and Superman is their favorite. I think my favorite part of this blanket is that it almost looks like a superhero cape with the red fabric and turquoise binding! I hope their baby enjoys this blanket as much as the parent's and I do!!

I apologize for the poor picture quality. This was the only picture of the front I took before giving it to the parent's-to-be. Two corners have the Superman logo and the other two corners have Superman in different poses. The red fabric is a really soft bubble chenile and the binding is a turquoise satin blanket binding.

The fabric on the back is a Superman rocket print on snuggle flannel that I found at JoAnn's. I just love it!!

<span style="color: #741b47; font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Just who is the Easter Bunny?
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">

<span style="color: #741b47; font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">This is a question I found myself asking as my girls had their picture taken with the Easter Bunny at the mall. Growing up Catholic, I of course know the religious meaning of the holiday - but where did the Easter Bunny originate?
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Eastre was originally a Pagan festival to celebrate springtime. Eastre was a goddess worshipped by Anglo-Saxons through her earthly symbol - the rabbit. In Pre-Christian lore, the hare and rabbit were among the most fertile animals and therefore became symbols of new life during the spring.
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">

<span style="color: #741b47; font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">The idea of the Easter Bunny was introduced to America by German settlers in the Pennsylvania Dutch area in the 1700's. This bunny was known as the "Oschter Haws" and was believed to lay colorful eggs. Children would make nests for the Oschter Haws to use to hold the eggs. In the 1800's the Germans created the first edible Easter bunnies made from sugar and pastry. By the 19th century in America the Easter Hare became known as the Easter Bunny who brought baskets filled with eggs, chocolate, candy and other small gifts.
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">

<span style="color: #741b47; font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Since the springtime festival coincided with the Christian belief of the resurrection of Jesus, the Easter Bunny eventually became an iconic symbol for our holiday.
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">

<span style="color: #741b47; font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">My 3 year old and I decided to make a simple bunny craft to decorate our table. The materials we used for this fun craft were small terra cotta flowerpots, craft paint, craft glue, pom poms, foam sheets, chenille pipe cleaners, silly eyes, Easter grass and ribbon.
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">

<span style="color: #741b47; font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">We began by painting the flowerpots white for the bunnies. While the paint was drying, I cut out ear shapes from the foam and then painted some pink in the middle ( Madailein decided her bunny would have all pink ears! ) We used the craft glue to stick the ears to the back of the flowerpots and the pom poms to form the face and tail. Glue the silly eyes in 2 small pom poms; cut the pipe cleaners for whiskers and fill the pot with the Easter grass. Final touch - a ribbon around the middle and Voila! you have a cute little Easter Bunny!
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">This was so simple to do with a toddler and only took us about 30 minutes from start to finish. Madailein is so proud of her bunny since she was able to do a good portion of it by herself.
Who wouldn't smile at the happy colors and adorable bunny bow?!

Materials Needed:
* Styrofoam Circle Wreath
* Spool of pink tulle
* Spool of turquoise tulle
* Spool of sparkle yellow tulle
* Wired Easter ribbon
* Glitter curl picks (I found them at Pat Catan's)

I made this wreath just like the Valentine's wreath - cutting the tulle into approximately 6" lengths and knotting around the styrofoam.
Time-wise this took me around an hour; I must be getting quicker!! : D
The tulle was a little more expensive (I bought it at Hobby Lobby this time and did not have a coupon); so overall this wreath project cost me about $15.00. Still not too bad!
Dinosaur Baby BlanketIt seems to be baby season around here! So many people are expecting (not me!); I had to share this beyond adorable dinosaur blanket I made.

Since I don't have boys, I think I am living vicariously through these baby boy blankets. They are so much fun to create and are turning out great!

JoAnn Fabrics had this really cute dinosaur / godzilla snuggle flannel. I had no idea what I was going to make with it, but knew I had to get it! From that flannel, the Roar! Dinosaur blanket was born. :)
Make Your Blog Work for You with the Right Payment Options
One of the biggest online phenomenons has been the blogging craze. There are people using blog websites to write memoirs, to write how-to articles, and to share creative ideas with family and friends. There are many stay-at-home moms who have found success blogging on the experiences of homemaking and parenthood, and many of them have developed products in these areas that are both fun and innovative. No matter what your blogging about, it can be a lucrative business to sell your products through your blog. The first step is to find out which payment option will be best for your site.

Remember, all payment processing services have fees, and some of the fees are monthly, annual, and with each purchase. It's important to be clear on what the fees will be with your service. One of the less expensive merchant services is one in which you do more of the processing work. A manual merchant service will require you to call in all of the credit card numbers and process them with your phone. This can save you money on monthly fees, and the savings can be in the hundreds of dollars per month.

If you don't have time for manual credit card processing, there are automatic processing services that work directly from your site. Someone can send in credit card information and the payment can be directly deposited into your bank account. Many people choose this options because it comes with less hassle. You can expect to pay more on your overall fees with this automatic service, but it will save you time. For low fees, you can look at a site like http://www.advantageprocessors.com/.

One of the easiest and most affordable payment options out there is PayPal, which makes it easy to take payments through PayPal. Many bloggers love the PayPal button on their site because it's easy to setup, and the fees are very competitive. PayPal offers fast processing, which means you will have funds from orders in your account almost immediately. This is a simple option for bloggers that don't process a lot of payments or are otherwise just getting started with their website.

When it comes down to it, the type of payment merchant you go with depends on what your blog needs and how much money you will have coming in. You will want to determine how much you can afford to spend on merchant solutions, and then analyze how much time you have to deal with processing orders. Then you can determine whether you want a manual service or one that works automatically.

I had the pleasure of organizing the Valentine party for my daughter's kindergarten class today! What a joy these kids were!

During our room mom meeting in January, we came up with the idea of playing Sight Word Bingo during the party. If you do a Google search for "Sight Word Bingo", there are tons out there to print off and use. Could I do things that simple? No!! I decided to make my own bingo cards for the kids!

The kids all got some candy conversation hearts to use as the bingo card markers. They loved that they could eat the game pieces!!

At our craft station, we decided to make some super cute Hershey Kiss mice that one of the room mom's found on Pinterest. Really easy craft for the kiddos - 2 Hershey Kiss with a foam heart in the middle. We also used a foam heart for the feet and I added googly eyes.

The kids thought these were hillarious! For some reason - mine looks more like an elephant than a mouse!
I love tulle! It just makes everything more girly and fun! I have been seeing these tulle wreaths all over the internet and decided to make one for Valentine's Day to grace my front door. Remember the Valentine Rose Heart Wreath from last year? My girls have been "borrowing" the roses from the wreath; so what better way to repurpose it than turn it ballet-inspired Valentine's Day wreath.
Cut the tulle into strips of approximately 6-7 inches in length. Slip-knot the tulle around the wreath; similar to how you would when making a tutu. I also knotted the tulle in place after slip-knotting it around the wreath, just to make sure it stayed properly.

Overall it took me around 1 ½ hours to tie all the tulle around the wreath. When that step was completed, I took the Valentine heart pick apart and stuck it into the Styrofoam wreath in various places.

I went from working a "normal" 8-4:30 day shift to working a 2:30-11:00pm shift. What a difference! We were used to dropping the kids off at daycare / school in the morning; picking them up on the way home from work, me making dinner and then getting the kids ready for bed. It was a schedule we had perfected and were comfortable with. In September, I had the opportunity to take on a leadership role at work - which required me to change my shift. Now, I am home for the majority of the day; take Madailein to school in the morning and have the rest of the day to do housework and play with Caitlyn.

I learned early on that I needed to make a daily schedule that works with our new life schedule. Along this journey I did some searching on the internet for a "working mom's schedule" and to my shock I had a very difficult time finding one! So, I made my own:
At first, I really held myself accountable for everything - but I learned that I had to give myself some grace! Some days, it's so hectic that I just can't get the beds made or a load of laundry done; and that's ok! This may seem fairly simple, but I thrive on making lists. I think it's the satisfaction of being able to check off what I have accomplished so far!

This month has brought a lot of heartache to my family - a week before Christmas my grandpa passed away. In his honor, I dedicate this post and would like to share a lovely poem my grandma selected for his service:

The Broken Chain by Ron Tranmer

We little knew the day that,
God was going to call your name,
In life we loved you dearly,
in death we do the same.

It broke our hearts to lose you,
but in God we put our trust,
In times as difficult as this,
faith is such a must.

You left us peaceful memories,
your love is still our guide,
And though we cannot see you,
you are always at our side.

Our family chain is broken,
and nothing seems the same,
But as God calls us one by one,
the chain will link again.
Last year I ventured into the world of tutu's! Huge hit with my girls, but not so much at our craft show last year. For this years show, I decided to add a leotard with each tutu and jazz them up a bit - huge success!!! On the Saturday of our show, I sold all the ballet costumes and had to make more for the next day.

These tutu's could not be any easier to make. I simply use an elastic hair band and slip knot the tulle around it. The leotards were a swimsuit doll pattern that my mom helped me to perfect (I made many before they fit the dolls properly!)

I'm still undecided about whether the tutu's are a bit too long and foofy for the dolls; I may try a few a bit shorter and see which I like better.

I typically sell these at work and thought about how I could enhance them to be even cuter than before!

In the past, I would embroider designs onto anti-pill fleece; then sew it together with a flannel. Once my wheels started turning, I figured the next step into cuteness for these blankets would be to finish them off with a satin blanket binding or a quilt binding.

Success!! I think the binding gives the blankets just the right finishing touch, don't you?!
This Ocean Cuties blanket is one of my favorite. I choose a soft white bubble chenille fabric for the top layer with the most adorable ocean embroidery. Each corner has a different character: Octopus, fish, seahorse and a whale.

The back of the blanket is a snuggle flannel ocean print that is new at Jo Ann Fabrics! I was beyond excited when I saw the bolt of this flannel! The quilt binding compliments the colors in the print just perfectly!
